Successful Alumni Events in April

April 18th and April 25th saw two successful events for FOCUS Alumni in Greater Washington and New York City.  Four key alumni speakers all spoke about the ways in which their lives have been touched by FOCUS. Sarah Lewis, GWA Alum '03 and current New York resident and FOCUS volunteer spoke, saying, "I got involved in FOCUS as a student, but the organization continues to serve me as an adult...I encourage everyone to reconnect with old friends, you never know what you might find in that community." Other speakers included Allison Moller Clausen, Brian Burke, John Moran, Sarah Reimers, and Charlie Drew.  Both events were an excellent way to initiate a $25K matching campaign for alumni donations. As an organization, we were thrilled that so many alumni were able to make it to the events.

To celebrate the initiative, FOCUS invites its alumni to our events in Washington and New York: April 18th and 25th respectively.  For more information about this initiative please visit the alumni campaign webpage.

February 5 - 6, 2010:  FOCUS Board of Trustees Meet in Raleigh, North Carolina and Welcome New Members Hilary Heijmen and Jim Munroe

Members of the FOCUS Board of Trustees braved a stormy weather to travel to Raleigh, N.C. for their winter meeting.  Hosted by Amy Moreau, Area Director for Raleigh FOCUS, and members of the Area Sponsoring Committee, the FOCUS trustees handled a packed agenda that reflected the demanding financial climate and enjoyed two evenings time together. In these meetings, the Board welcomed new members Hilary Heijmen and Jim Munroe.  Hilary, a FOCUS parent and long-time member of the Sponsoring Committee of Fairfield / Westchester FOCUS, has often volunteered at the Study Center.  A graduate of Philips Academy and Williams College, Jim is from the first generation of FOCUS students and leaders in the 1960s, and is currently the Dean of the Christ Church Cathedral in Springfield, Mass.

FOCUS Hires New COO, Bo Harris

Former board member, Bo Harris was hired this winter as FOCUS' Chief Operating Officer.  After a long search period, the perfect candidate came from our own board of directors.  Bo has been involved with FOCUS since his early twenties as a volunteer, and for one year as Director of Development under Simon Barnes. Look for more about him in the upcoming issue of the InFOCUS.  To get on our InFOCUS mailing list please send an email to Ann Lefeve.
