Charlottesville Weekend

November 18-20, 2016

For students from the following areas: Raleigh, Richmond, Greater Washington Area, and VA Boarding Schools.

Meet old friends and make new ones! Students in grades 9 - 12 from Raleigh, Richmond, Greater Washington Area, and the Virginia Boarding Schools are all invited to come enjoy an autumnal weekend with FOCUS at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. The weekend will be a mixture of fun games, thoughtful talks, great music, and down-time spent on the campus of UVA and in Charlottesville.

The Program Fee

The program fee of $115 covers all program activities, as well some meals. Students should plan to have dinner before they arrive Friday night. Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings, as well as dinner on Saturday evening will be provided. Students will need to buy lunch on Saturday and Sunday.

Please contact your local area staff if you would like to apply for a scholarship.

Transportation

Your FOCUS area director may organize group transportation to and from Charlottesville Weeekend. Please contact him or her for details. We can provide driving and parking directions for those who arrive by car.

Suggested Packing List

The majority of students will be sleeping in bunk beds at the conference and retreat center, but due to numbers, some people may need to bring sleeping mats. Housing assignments will be finalized prior to the weekend. You will need to pack all linens (we suggest a sleeping bag and pillow), a towel, and toiletries. We also suggest you bring comfortable shoes and comfortable clothes for indoors and outdoors. Please feel free to bring any musical instrument, a notebook, camera, or sports equipment.

Please Do Not Bring

Alcohol, illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia, computers, or iPads/tablets. You may bring iPods or similar devices to listen to music, but we request that students not watch videos on them. If any student is found with such items, those items in question will either be confiscated until the end of the program, or, in the case of alcohol or illegal drugs, the student may be sent home early. FOCUS is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen items during the program.
